Abstract
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic, spontaneous pain and hypersensitive reaction of the leg or arm, with problems of the autonomic or motor nervous system. Unfortunately, there are often patients with refractory CRPS that do not improve symptoms despite treatment, including several medications, drug infusion therapy, nerve block of peripheral or central nerve, physical therapy and spinal cord stimulation. This report is a case in which patients with refractory CRPS have lost memories and decreasing pain after an accidental nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE), and the use of narcotic analgesics has diminished as symptoms have eased. In this case report, the accidental epileptic seizure might affect the patient's neurocognitive processing, which may have contributed to pain reduction and decreased use of narcotic analgesics. There is a possibility that memory about pain and disability may be related to patient¡¯s pain and disability in patients with CRPS.
